College Updates: 1st Week of Holiday

Salutation

Greetings your Eminence and fellow AFC Family! I trust that this finds you all in good health.

Admin Briefs

In the early hours of yesterday morning, we received the sad news of the passing of Fr. Seluini 'Akau'ola sm in Perth, Australia. Earlier in the week we were informed by Makeleta, Fr. Seluini's sister, of his critical condition. However, we didn't expect it to happen so early.

And yet, with a grateful heart we graciously accept the fact that Fr. Seluini has left us to be with the Lord and His Blessed Mother whom he so faithfully served. With St. Paul in 2 Timothy 4:7-8, we can proudly state this of Fr. Seluini:

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing."

We're indeed grateful to the Provincial House in Suva and a few other confreres who have sent us souvenir photos and biography of the late Fr. Seluini.

Seen above is Fr. Seluini, still a deacon then, assisting the late St Pope John Paul II during the Papal Visit to Fiji in 1986.

Annual Prize Giving

The college held its annual Prize Giving last Thursday and also marked the closure of the academic year 2021. The event went very well, marked with a strong presence of parents and ex-students. After such a stiff competition this year at Level 6, the Dux of the college was finally awarded to 'Ana Matakivaha Siasau of Fungamisi, Falaleu, residing in Ma'ufanga.

The annual event was concluded with an inspiring message from His Eminence, Cardinal Mafi which you can check out below:

We wish our parents, teachers, and students, a happy and refreshing holiday!

Montfort Silver Jubilee

Last Friday the Montfort Technical Institute celebrated its 25th Silver Jubilee. It was wonderful to witness the milestone achieved by the Montfort Brothers since the institute's inception. The Chief Guest was His Eminence, Cardinal Mafi, while the keynote address was delivered by the Hon. Minister for Education, Hu'akavameiliku.

Pfizer Vaccination

The staff and students were called back to school today to undergo the second dose of the Pfizer Vaccination. It's encouraging to see the good turnout by the students for this event.

Ex-students' fund raising for the college's New Chapel

Last Saturday the Malia 'i Lutu ex-students of Havelu held their fund-raising concert. Even though there weren't many present, they were all 'Brave Hearts'! Together with assistance from family members and friends overseas, they collected $67,890.

The President of the Nuku'alofa Ex-students' Associations, Mrs. Siangana Kaitapu Palu was present, so was their Parish Priest, Fr. Loni Mafi. This week, Houma and Mataika will have their concerts respectively.

Conclusion

Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to you all for your generous and tireless support for our beloved college, 'Apifo'ou.

We'll harvest our cassava plantations next week but otherwise, it's time for a well deserved break!

On behalf of the 'Apifo'ou Family here in Tonga may I extend to you all a grace-filled and joyful Festive Season!

Viva AFC!
