Salutation
Greetings your Eminence and fellow 'Apifo'ou Family!
Admin Briefs
This week 7 was focused on the preparations for the Mid-Year Exams as well as the end of Semester 1 exams for the Form 7. We have one more week of revision and remedial before all the Forms embark on their exams. The Form 7 students will complete their exams next week and then they'll have a break before they return to commence Semester 2.
The Opening of the Sports season happened yesterday. Four of our Teams played yesterday. Grades 1, 2, & 3 all recorded a win. Our 1XV lost to Liahona 12 - 18. LHS was a better Team on the day. We had plenty of opportunities to score but poor decision and options on the field cost us the game. This is something that our coaching staff need to work on before the next game. The Netball and Soccer will begin their competitions next week.
The MEIDECC competitions for protecting the environment from plastic pollution was won by our students. These group of students with the guidance of Mr. David Nagata have won similar events in previous years. The creativity of the students is amazing as they portrayed the globe being suffocated by plastics!
These group of students have won a few national competitions now and so their level of confidence has skyrocketed over the years!
Form 7 Exams
The Form 7 students have put all their concerted efforts during the semester to the test. We wish them all the best until they complete the last papers next week!
Dr. Leo with Human Development Program
We're very fortunate to secure the service of Dr. Leonaitasi Hoponoa who freely avails himself to help the staff and students in the area of Human Development. This time round he's focusing on the Level 3 students.
Agricultural Science
We're very grateful indeed to Mr. Minoru Jr and the Nishi Trading Ltd for including Apifo'ou in the Soil Sampling Study. The officers conducted their study at the college which was very beneficial for the students and staff as well.
St. Marys' Library & Computer Lab
The TVET students continue the much needed repair works to the upper room of the St. Mary's Admin Block. This will be transformed into a Computer Lab. Meanwhile, the St. Mary Campus Library is gradually progressing and this will become the base for Ms. Singa Kaifoto and the Enrichment Program.
Rugby Campaign, 2023.
I've repeatedly expressed to the Senior 1XV since they moved into camp that this is the year of Apifo'ou as far as rugby is concerned. The senior trophy has eluded the Lalo Kasia for some years now! If Takuilau can achieve the impossible then there's no excuse for AFC! Anyway, our campaign didn't get off to the start that we all wanted. Hence, it's back to the drawing board to regroup & then go again, harder!
It's customary for the Principal to deliver an inspiring message to the boys and present the jerseys. Evidently, the message didn't hit home!
Visit by the President of the Sydney Executive Committee
Mr. Dan Loloa, the President of the Sydney Executive Committee for AFC ex-students paid us a surprise visit. It was more surprising when he presented a donation from ex-students in Sydney of $46,823.44. He also gave us some guidelines for their use.
Mr. President, fellow Executive Members, and all the ex-students in Sydney, I extend to you all on behalf of the Apifo'ou Family our deepest gratitude for this most generous donation to our beloved college. Fakafeta'i e 'ofa lahi mo e tokoni ki hotau Lalo Kasia.
We'll keep you Mr. President and all of you in our prayers. Rest assured, the 1,000+ staff and students of AFC will offer up their prayers for you all in Sydney. Malo fau!
Fijian Connection!
The recent royal funeral of the late Princess Mele Siu'ilikutapu gave me the opportunity to reunite with my Fijian family and friends. During my years in Fiji I've been very close to the Mara and Ganilau Family. In 2003 I was the matanivanua (spokesperson) for her Majesty the late Queen Halaevalu Mata'aho at the state funeral of the then President of Fiji, Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara. In 2015 I officiated in the wedding of Ratu Edward Tuivanuavou Ganilau and Lady Ainise Taumoepeau in Fiji. Hence, I was so pleased to catch up with Adi Koila, Adi Litia, Ratu Tevita, Ratu Edward, and friends from Fiji.
Conclusion
May I extend to you all our sincere gratitude for your prayers and support for Apifo'ou.
I pray that the Almighty God, through the prayers of our Blessed Mother, will bless you all ever more abundantly.
Viva AFC!
