College Updates: Week 7 - Term 4

Salutation:

Greetings your Eminence and fellow AFC Family!

Admin Briefs:

~ This is week 7 and it's the first week of the external exams for Forms 5, 6, & 7.

~ Photos 015 & 016 show our Forms 5 & 6 students embarking on their exams respectively. There are 209 Form 5 students and they have theirs at our college Hall. The 109 Form 6 students are sitting their exams at Tailulu college..

~ The Forms 1 - 4 are manning the college at this time, doing bits and pieces inside and outside the classrooms.

New Investment:

As a result of brainstorming exercises among the School's Advisory Board we came up with the idea to launch a new investment for the school. We all agreed to start an Agriculture Project in order to plant cassava for the college. Fortunately we've secured 3 plots of lands: two at Matahau and one at Pea.

Preliminary works such as the cleaning of the lands and ploughing commenced about a month ago. The first plot at Matahau has 2 acres and you can see in photo 003 below Fr. Palenapa Tavo helping out with the planting. It's a blessing in disguise that Fr. Palenapa is stuck here due to the Covid lock-down. He has been very generous and creative in doing bits and pieces here and there for the village.

The second plot has about 8 acres. There's a lot of hard work to be done here as it's located right at the edge of the village. Teachers with the help of some students have been going to Matahau every weekend to assist with the fencing of the lands which is vital (009). Photo 030 shows the students helping out with the cutting and transporting of cassava stocks to get ready for planting this weekend.

The rationale behind this new investment is simple. With the adverse effects and repercussions of Covid-19 looming we have to play smart! We cannot continue to rely on manna from Heaven or solely rely on our ex-students overseas! The saying is true here, "God helps those who help themselves!"

Construction Work:

Photo 043 displays the stage at which the 3 new buildings are in right now. They're focusing on plastering and painting now. According to Paea, Manager for Ca'Bella, they're on track to complete the work before the 1st of December, the designated date for the Opening.

Conclusion:

Thank you very much one and all, for the ongoing support for our beloved Alma Mater. Please continue to keep our exams' students in your prayers.

Viva AFC!
