College Updates: Week 9 - Term 1

Salutation:

Greetings your Eminence and fellow Apifo'ou Family!

Admin Briefs

The college wrapped up the 1st Assessment yesterday and we're grateful that it was conducted well. This also marked the end of the school program for this Term 1 as far as classes are concerned. The whole of next week will be spent at Teufaiva Park for the 97th Inter-Collegiate Sports.

Today is Holy Thursday so the whole school spent the first half of this morning praying and meditating on Mary's Way of the Cross which was led by the Form 7 staff and students. The day was then concluded with the film, 'The Passion of the Christ'. This was a good way to prepare the college for the celebrations of the Easter Triduum which begins this evening.

The whole school was glued to the screen for screening of 'The Passion of the Christ'.

First Common Paper Assessment

The 1st Assessment was carried out properly without any major hiccups. We're happy that we got it out of the way so that we focus on the celebrations of Holy Week and then the Intercollegiate sports next week.

Science Camp

The parents of the Level 4 & 5 students gathered with the HOD Science Mrs. Makalita 'Otumuli, Ms. Laumanu Ma'afu and the staffs from the US Embassy to organize the Science Camp during the holiday. This project is funded by the US Embassy and we're fortunate to be a part of it.

Athletics Squad

The final leg of the preparations for the Inter-Collegiate Sports is currently underway. The athletes will remain in camp and they'll remain in camp throughout the Holy Week celebrations as well.

Seen here are the athletes going through the last training sessions before they embark on this annual athletics competition next week at Teufaiva.

The parents of the athletes joined the Squad for the celebration of the Eucharist.

The mental and spiritual dimensions of the preparations are crucial at this stage.

We're grateful to the ex-students who continue to help with the feeding of the Squad. Malo fau e 'ofa!

Seen below is the National Committee which will oversee all operations at Teufaiva throughout the four days of athletic competition next week. Seen here are the different Heads of various organizations with a role to play such as the Police, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Education, and the Principals' Association.

Chiropractor Team

The college is fortunate that the Chiropractor Team from the USA conducted their treatment sessions for the staff and students at the college hall.

Seen here are the Team doctors treating the students. The Principal was required to be treated as well to make sure that his health is also up to standard.

Oceania Football Championship

Apifo'ou Cheering Squad was part of the tournament as they were asked to cheer for the Cook Islands! No wonder the Cooks won 1 - 0 against Tonga.

Houma PTA

The PTA Executive Committee gathered at Houma to meet with the parents and students. It was quite affirming to see the parents attending the session.

It was great to see the Parish Priest Fr. Paulo 'Amato supporting the PTA.

Seen below are the PTA Executive members leading the cleanup campaign at the college. Malo!

Teachers' Trainees

Today we farewelled the 13 Teacher Trainees who had spent four weeks here at the college for their Practicum. We're grateful to them for choosing 'Apifo'ou as the placement for their training. Seen below is Fr. Valu with some of the Trainees. They appear to be happy being here at the college. Best wishes in your future endeavors!

Conclusion

May I take this opportunity to thank you for your continuous support and prayers for the college. Please allow me to wish you all a most 'grace-filled' Holy Week and a very 'Happy Easter' in advance!
