College Updates: Week 3 - Term 4

Salutation:

Greetings your Eminence and fellow AFC Family!

Admin Briefs:

~ This is the 3rd week of Term 4 and currently the Forms 5's & 6's are sitting their final exams (photo 012). We treat this exam as the final yardstick to gauge the level of readiness of our students prior to the external exams.

~ On Wednesday the juniors from Forms 1 - 4, 7 and TVET gathered at the Hall to pray the rosary as it coincided with the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. This was led by the Dean of St. Mary's, Sr. Sesilia 'Alamoti SMSM (photo 009).

World Teachers Day (WTD):

Last Friday all the Catholic teachers from our Pre, Primary, Secondary, and Technical Institutes gathered at Lapaha to celebrate WTD. The events of the day began with the celebration of the Eucharist led by Cardinal Mafi. The teachers were then sorted into 6 groups and marched on to Takuilau for the second part. Takuilau with the support of their ex-scholars treated all of us to a scrumptious meal and wonderful entertainment. Seen here in photo 002 are some of the AFC teachers donning their Mary-like colours. Big vinaka vakalevu to Mr. Sitani Paulo and Takuilau family for hosting the day and we'll be there again next year!

Construction & Reconstruction works:

The Ca'Bella contractors labor on with the construction of the new St. Thomas classrooms. The two repaired buildings B5 & B7 are progressing well as seen here in photos 003 & 023.

Aotearoa Ex-students:

Our sincere gratitude goes to Lita Foliaki and the Executives from Aotearoa for the timely donation of assorted items: desks, chairs, whiteboards, books, photocopy papers, paints, etc. Seen here in the photo are Peta Tausinga, Chris Muller, Mata Kaufusi, and some of the ex-students who helped to pack the container designated for AFC. Fakamalo lahi atu Fr. Line mo e kau Kolisi Tutuku mei NZ. Your generous donation comes at no better time than now, with the completion of the ten new classrooms approaching.

Fiji 50th Anniversary of Independence:

Tomorrow, the college Brass Band will lead the march of the Fijian Community in Tonga to mark their 50th Anniversary of Independence. We'll take part in this momentous celebration as there are a few Kai Viti among the staff, including the Principal!! The feast and entertainment to mark the occasion will be held at the Hall. Happy Fiji Day in advance to all the Kai Viti!

Conclusion:

As we progress toward the end of this academic year we are indeed overwhelmed by all the generous support from ex-students, friends and benefactors. Despite the challenges of COVID-19 many people continue to walk the extra mile and reach out to the college in one way or another.

Malo e tokoni mo e 'ofa lahi ki hotau 'apiako 'ofa'anga.

Viva AFC!
