Salutation:
Greetings Your Eminence and fellow Apifo'ou Family!
Admin Briefs
The focus for this week and the next will be the Mid-Year Exams. Meanwhile, the various Sporting Teams continue their training and preparations for their respective competitions.
Mid-Year Exams
The teachers and students have been urged to observe all the Exam Guidelines and Rules. These photos are from the different Levels in the first week of exams.
These are from Level 1. It's great to see our most junior students giving it their all.
Seen here are the Form 7 students sitting for their end of semester exams.
Seen here are the various classes of Level 3.
Seen here are the Level 4 students showing great concentration on their exams.
The next lots of photos are of the Level 6 students.
Seen below are some of the Level 6 students sitting their exams on the veranda due to the requirement for spacing out students during these exams.
The last lots are from the classes in Level 5.
Internal Assessment for Level 6
The Level 6 students who take the Tongan Language subject conducted their Oratory Assessment this week. Each student delivered a prepared speech on certain topics and were judged by an officer from the Ministry of Education.
Seen here is the Officer from the Ministry laying down the Guidelines for assessing students. Mr. Haukinima Mafi, Tongan Language HOD closely observes the operation!
Sports
The Netball Teams' results saw improvement from last week! Midget A lost 0 - 2 to Lavengamalie, Midget B won against Pakilau Middle Sch 4 - 2; Junior A lost to QSC 5 - 6, Junior B lost to Maamaloa 5 - 5; Inter A AFC 13 - Tailulu 8, Inter B AFC 10 - Lavengamalie 11; Senior A AFC 13 - Takuilau 7, Sr B AFC 15 - QSC 11.
Rugby
The Senior 1XV narrowly lost to 'Atele 24 - 28, but the boys have come away with lots of positives. The only differences in the scores were the missed conversions from our two tries, otherwise it would have been a draw. Hence, the loss is a blessing in disguise as the boys genuinely believe it was their game! And if they continue to play as a unit as was shown today, they can beat any team on their day.
It's customary that our rugby boys sing and pray in thanksgiving to our Blessed Mother before and after their games as seen here below. Malo pe fanau e va'inga!
Grade 1 A & B
The toasts of rugby or Apifo'ou are the two Grade 1 Teams! Both Teams haven't lost a game yet. They have beaten the top three schools Toloa, 'Atele, and Liahona! Under their skillful Coach 'Alipate, he has drilled these boys to a whole new level.
Seen below is the master Coach 'Alipate laying down the drills before the games.
Grade 1A below beat Liahona 17 - 7; 1B beat Tailulu 21 - 5. Bravo boys!
New Teacher's Quarter
The construction work on the new Teacher's Quarter has begun. Seen here is the chief Carpenter 'Alani Mahoni with the TVET staff and students digging the foundations. We're blessed to have this donation from the government and hopefully we'll get another two or three in the foreseeable future. The whole idea behind this project is to enable the teachers now occupying the Old Convent to move here so that we may offer a small-scale Boarding Section from next year.
Special Visitors
The Principal of St. Thomas (NZ), Mr. Steve Hart, and his Deputy visited the college this week. He was delighted with our planned tour to St. Bede's (NZ) in August and he humbly requested that we also play a game against their Under 17. This only makes our Tour very interesting since we'll be playing four top schools in Christchurch in two weeks: St. Thomas 21/8, St. Bede's 24/8, De La Salle 28/8, and Sacred Heart 2/9.
Executive Committee
The Executive Committee of our ex-students met this week to follow up on activities lining up for the Parishes in Tonga and all our overseas ex-students' Associations.
Conclusion
May I extend to you all our sincere gratitude for all your prayers and support for us here at AFC. We have 1 more week of exams and sports before we take a breather!
VIVA AFC!
