College Updates: Week 9 - Term 3

Salutation

Greetings your Eminence and fellow AFC Family!

Admin Briefs

Our focus for this Week 9 is the Common Assessments for all Levels. This is 30% of the Final Exams at the end of the year. It's encouraging to see students attending to their respective exams. Seen below are teachers supervising the students during these exams.

Afternoon Study

The afternoon study program continues. We're grateful to the senior teachers for helping out in serving the light refreshments for students before they go back to the classrooms after school.

Enrichment & Volunteer Programs

These are two new projects that just started this year. Ms. Singa Kaifoto looks after the Enrichment Program at the junior's side. She has been assisted by our Volunteer Executives from Melbourne with materials to help students with their reading and basic mathematics.

The Volunteer Program is equally running well and is coordinated by Fonomau & 'Unaloto Lolohea from Melbourne. A few of our ex-students are helping out with Fr. 'Ofa Vaihu's Accounting & Economics classes as he's still recovering.

Industrial Arts

The Forms 4, 5, & 6 students, who're doing projects as part of their IA Tasks, displayed some of their projects. Seen here are the students proudly showing off the end products of those projects. Also in the background are Paulo Tonga and ‘Inoke, the two teachers in the department.

Winning Poem

Likamoana Kautoke (F2) was honored during the assembly with his winning Poem in the Trade & Commerce Week. It was extra special as the Cardinal and Vicar General were present as he delivered his poem. Mighty congrats Likamoana!

PTA Day

Last Saturday the college held its annual PTA Day. It's always a colorful day as the different levels performed their respective items. It was wonderful to see lots of parents, ex-students, and friends of the college present at the occasion. The money collected was close to $18,000, which will help with the running of the afternoon study program.

A special item that was performed on the day was the singing of the latest composition of the Apifo'ou Song by Mr. Sosefo Mailangi from the USA. This was led by Sitani Kisina and the Brass Band students.

The college was honored with the presence of His Eminence, Soane Patita Katinali Mafi, accompanied by the Vicar General, Monsignor Lutoviko Finau. His core message was to keep the college environment clean and to respect and promote the unique charism of Apifo'ou College as a Marist Catholic school. His Eminence also announced his wish that alcohol and kava tonga should not be consumed within the college premises.

Ex-students' fund-raising drive

At a recent gathering of AFC ex-students at the Basilica of St. Anthony of Padua to launch their fund-raising drive, Dr. ‘Alisi Kautoke Holani there delivered a speech on the background to AFC’s 5-Year Master Plan. The speech has garnered quite some interest on social media, but you can catch up on it here.
