College Updates: Wk 3 - Term 1

Salutation:

Greetings your Eminence and fellow AFC Family!

Admin Briefs:

~ At our Regional House at Longoteme last Saturday, the Marist Sector welcomed our two Priests, Frs. Sipiliano Faka'osi sm & Viliami Kiola sm (photo 003). Fr. Sipi will join AFC's staff and Fr. Viliami will serve at Takuilau. Indeed, this is a blessing for the Catholic system to have two Priests serving with us. Welcome home!

~ Yesterday, despite the gloomy weather it was a wonderful day for the college as the AFC Family celebrated our Opening Mass which coincided with the Induction of our 64 Prefects or Student Leaders for 2021 (photos 037, 050, 051).

A vital component of the Eucharist was the Pledge recited by the whole school plus the parents and ex-students. The AFC wholeheartedly dedicated the academic Year 2021 to God through the intercession of our Patronage, St. Peter Chanel, and of course the Blessed Virgin Mary. We pledge ourselves to God with renewed commitment and zeal.

For those of you who missed out on the live coverage of the Mass, you can still watch it on the Letio Apifo'ou Tonga, on Facebook.

The day was concluded with a shared meal for the parents, teachers and Prefects.

The Head Prefects for 2021 are Sebastian Tonga from Houmakelikao & Pauline Fakava from Houma.

New Classrooms:

It's such a joy to observe the tranquility within the new classrooms despite the wet weather. The students are safe and comfortable with the spacious and fresh classrooms. Photo 023 shows one of the Form 6's enjoying the neatness of their classroom.

As one of the experts in education stated, "with a new-look classroom there's a natural elevation in the level of motivation for students!"

5-Year Master Plan:

One of the benefits of going around the Parishes, the ex-students are attempting to resuscitate themselves! Photo 012 shows the Hihifo ex-students having a BBQ and at the same time collecting their contributions to the college. Go Hihifo go!!

Inter-House Sports competitions:

Please join us if you're available for those in Tonga. For all the ex-students overseas you can watch the livestream coverage of the two days' events at Teufaiva by our very own, Letio Apifo'ou Tonga.

Conclusion:

I normally converse with St. Joseph (statue in front of our house) every morning after my training session, and he assured me that the weather for today and tomorrow will be fine! Indeed, he's faithful to his work!

Thank you very much, one and all, for your prayers and support for our beloved college this week.

Viva AFC!
