College Updates: Wk 4 - Term 1

Salutation:

Greetings your Eminence and fellow AFC Family!

Admin Updates:

~ This is the end of Week 4 of Term 1.

~ This week marks the beginning of the Lenten Season. The college celebrated Ash Wednesday Mass at the Hall (photo 057). The Papal theme for the Lenten Season 2021 is "Renewing Faith, Hope, and Love."

~ We normally celebrate our weekly Mass on Fridays. However, today we were able to celebrate the Stations of the Cross which was led by the Form 7 Coordinator Ms. Mele Leakona and students (photo 012).

~ Tomorrow, the Prefects will have a Reflection Day at Ha'asini. One of the Prefects is from Halaliku so he requested that we come there. Of course, the Prefects are looking forward to it. Last year we had it at Houma as we plan to engage the parishes in the formation of our young students leaders. The PP, Fr. Tupou Ma'afu has sent words of welcome!

Inter-House Sports competitions:

Karen House came out overall winner for the Inter-House Sports competitions. Foliaki became second followed by Kelekolio House.

Photos 010 & 014 showed the respective Houses also competing in their Marching display. Mind you the college has done Cadets Training so the standard of marching is relatively high. Anyway, Tomasi House in Red won the best marching house. You can also see Folau Pofaiva and Ha'amonga Tu'ipulotu displayed the fine spirit of competition as they joined in the march!

We're grateful to the parents and ex-students who are supporting the athletes by being present during the training sessions.

5-Year Master Plan:

I'd like to thank our counterparts from the US for the strong attendance at our Zoom consultation session last Saturday. I believe it went well and our facilitator Dr. Alisi Kautoke Holani was equally delighted with the outcome.

Our secretary Sakopo Lolohea is still liaising with NZ and Australia for a convenient time to conduct the same exercise.

The 5-Year Master Plan is on track to produce the first draft next month.

Heartfelt Condolences:

The AFC Family wishes to extend to the Mercy Sisters our heartfelt condolence for the passing of Sr. Senolita Vakata, a true daughter of St. Mary's and 'Apifo'ou College. I represented the college at her Requiem Mass at Kolonga last Friday. Our Brassband did the honour of leading the procession from Sr's family home at Ha'utu, Fahefa, to their family graveyards at their plantation. RIP Sr. Senolita.

Conclusion:

The Lenten Season is indeed the Acceptable Time and the Day of Salvation, as acclaimed in the readings of Ash Wednesday.

May I wish you, one and all, a grace-filled journey in this Lenten Journey 2021. May I remind you once again of Pope's Francis ' Lenten Theme: Renewing Faith, Hope, and Love.

Viva AFC!
