Salutation:
Greetings Your Eminence and fellow AFC Family!
Admin Briefs:
~ Today, 29th of July, is indeed a historical one for 'Apifo'ou College with the opening of its 7 new classrooms. The Hon. Prime Minister, Rev. Dr. Pohiva Tu'i'onetoa, did the honour of cutting the ribbon and thus opened the new classrooms, much to the applause and cheers from parents, teachers, and students present at the occasion. Among the dignitaries present today were the Hon. Minister for Treasury, Mr. Tevita Lavemaau, Education & Training, Hon. Siaosi Sovaleni. World Bank was represented by Mrs. Natalia Latu, and the second Secretary from the Australian High Commission.
~ The overview of the Project was done by the CEO for MEIDECC, Mr. Paula Ma'u. The keynote address was delivered by the Tonga Liaison Officer for the World Bank, Mrs. Natalia Latu.
~ The whole school applauded the announcement by Mr. Paula Ma'u that the signing of the second phase of the project was done yesterday between the government and World Bank. The Ca'Bella contractors have been given the green light to continue with the second phase which is to build 4 new classrooms that will replace the damaged ones in the St. Thomas block. They will also renovate the two damaged buildings facing the Gas Depot. This is indeed great news for 'Apifo'ou!
~ Mrs. Natalia Latu from the World Bank in her keynote speech assured the government and AFC of the Bank's commitment to the Pacific Islands' Resilience and Education Program.
~ I was honored to deliver the vote of thanks on behalf of the Diocese and AFC. I added 2 more blessings to the 8 Beatitudes or blessings in Matthew 5/3-10. "Blessed are the generous who conduct acts of charity for they shall receive multitude blessings!" On our behalf I extended to the PM and World Bank our sincerest gratitude for their titanic contribution to rebuilding AFC.
~ The other blessing is "Blessed are the resilient and all who are patient, for they shall inherit the land!" I shared with the audience that the AFC staff and students have been patiently waiting for two and half years, bearing all the hardships of learning and teaching inside their tents. Today, they have reaped the harvest of their being resilient and patient! And in the process, our students now are more resilient and ready to take on any obstacles that they may encounter in life.
~ All the attached photos were taken from today's occasion. I was interviewed on radio & TV and my principal message was just like Mary's Magnificat, glorifying God for the many blessings endowed upon AFC!
Conclusion:
On behalf of us here at the college, a mighty thank you, one and all, for your endless prayers and support for AFC.
Viva AFC!
